Venue and Local Area
The hotel combines traditional Amorgian architecture and spirit with a simple and elegant setting. Standing on a hillside overlooking the beautiful bay of Aegiali, Aegialis Hotel & Spa offers a breath-taking view into the deep blue of the Aegean Sea and to the surrounding islands of Nikouria, Donousa and Koufounisia.
The restaurant serves delicious healthy food, using organic vegetables, cultivated right in the hotel gardens.
Amorgos Island offers many possibilities for hiking, enjoying wonderful views and collecting your own aromatic and therapeutic herbs, used for herbal teas and spa treatments. In a nearby village, there is a new distillery for essential oils, from local herbs.
Between the main sandy beach of Aegiali and the beach of Levroso, Aegialis hotel is a maximum 7-10 minutes walk away from the crystal clear waters of Aegiali bay.
There is possibility for daily trips to 4 small islands: Iraklia, Schinousa, Koufonisi and Donousa; short afternoon/morning trips to the nearby villages of Tholaria, Lagada, Potamos or a boat trip to Nikouria, a non-residential small island.
Superior rooms present subtle, elegant and modern comfort featuring state of the art facilities in a minimal Cycladic design mentality. All rooms have a balcony with a breathtaking view!
US Citizens traveling to Greece need a current passport. Check the expiration date to make sure that it does not expire within 6 months of your trip. Visas are not required.
Concerns about the European Economy have had very little effect on tourism in Greece, especially outside the capital. ATMs may limit the amount of money you may withdraw, so it is advisable to manage your cash accordingly. Most small businesses prefer cash transactions, but larger hotels and transport companies usually accept Master Card and Visa.
Stay abreast of any travel advisories through the US State Department Website.
The remote location of Amorgos works like a natural filter keeping crowds small and the island unspoiled. From the United States, you will fly to Athens. You should plan to arrive at least one day before the start of the retreat.
Option 1: Ferry from Athens
Ferries run between Athens and the ports of Katapola and Aegialis. If you take the ferry to and from Athens itself, the trip will last approximately 7.5 hours. The hotel will arrange transport to and from the ferry terminal for you.
Option 2: Ferry from Santorini or Naxos
Flights are plentiful and inexpensive between Athens and Santorini or Athens and Naxos and the Ferry ride from either one is approximately 3 hours. Travel typically takes place midday.
